Join the Celebration: ICC’s ‘Vijayee Bharat – Victorious India’ Draws Massive Crowds!

The Indian Culture Center (ICC) in Stafford celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day on August 17. Under the guidance of President Parul Fernandes, the event was a vibrant showcase of Indian culture and community spirit.

Dr. Divyendu Singh chaired the festivities, which featured a thoughtful cultural program organized by Jasmeeta Singh. Chief Guest M.C. Manjunath, the Consul General of India, attended alongside several local mayors and community leaders. This turnout underscored the significant Indo-American presence in Texas.

A moment of silence was held to remember the victims of the Pahalgam attack in India. The theme of the event, “Vijayee Bharat” or “Victorious India,” honored both the courage of the Indian armed forces and the achievements of women in Indian society. The event’s decor reflected this dual theme, with a dynamic LED display and other engaging visuals.

Attendees enjoyed a festival atmosphere with more than 51 booths presenting traditional Indian clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, and delicious street food such as chaats and samosas. A photo booth highlighted the Indian flag, Tiranga, and shared its rich history.

Community participation was palpable. The parking lot overflowed as people flocked to relive cherished memories from their homeland. The celebration kicked off with patriotic songs performed by the Joshi group and included energetic cultural performances that portrayed India’s diversity through various traditional and Bollywood dance forms.

In a notable speech, M.C. Manjunath highlighted India’s remarkable progress, mentioning its rise to the fourth position in the global economy. Additionally, a video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged attendees to honor soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The event also spotlighted scholarship opportunities for students. High schoolers entering college received funds amounting to $100,000, thanks to generous donations from community supporters. The Bhalla Outstanding Student Scholarship and the Lalitha Das Outstanding Female Candidate awards were given to remarkable young talents, emphasizing the community’s commitment to education and empowerment.

The cultural program wrapped up with a spirited rendition of “Vande Mataram,” leaving everyone inspired. The celebration not only honored India’s independence but also strengthened the bonds within the community as they came together to celebrate their heritage.
