Join the Celebration on North Clinton Avenue: Saint Michael’s Church Food Pantry Expands to Serve More Families!

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Saint Michael’s Church Food Pantry has officially expanded, doubling its size to better serve the community.

In a recent celebration, Dawn Burdick, the executive director of Rochester Hope, shared that the pantry already helps over 400 families each week. With this expansion, that number is expected to grow. The 14605 zip code, where the pantry is located, is among the ten most food-insecure areas in New York State.

Burdick highlighted the importance of creating a supportive community around the pantry. Many users have formed connections through their shared experiences. Inside, the pantry resembles a grocery store, which helps to provide a more dignified shopping experience for those in need. “We worked hard to design a welcoming space,” Burdick explained. The pantry partners with Wegmans to obtain grocery store shelving and other necessary equipment, making it easier to manage stock.

Importantly, the pantry has no eligibility or ID requirements, allowing families to choose the food that suits their needs best. This client-choice model empowers users to make decisions for their families without added pressure.

Food insecurity is a pressing issue in many areas, and the need continues to grow. According to a recent report by Feeding America, one in eight people struggles with hunger in the U.S. This reality makes the work of local food pantries even more crucial.

The Saint Michael’s Church Food Pantry is not just a place to get food; it’s a vital resource for fostering community spirit and supporting those who need it most.
