The University of West Florida (UWF) is gearing up for its seventh annual Founders Week, set for April 12-17. This exciting event is all about celebrating the UWF community and its achievements, as well as looking forward to the future.
UWF President Martha D. Saunders expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Founders Week is a celebration of all that UWF has accomplished and a look ahead to our promising future together.” The week promises to bring together students, alumni, and locals, offering numerous activities to enjoy.
Founders Week kicks off with the Day of Play on April 12 at the UWF East Sports Complex. Starting at noon, community members can join in on fun activities like yard games, tie-dye shirt making, and delicious shaved ice. There will also be free admission to exciting baseball and softball games featuring UWF’s teams against West Alabama, starting at 1 p.m.
Another highlight of Founders Week is the Argos Day of Service. On April 15, volunteers can participate in service projects around Pensacola, and on April 16 in Fort Walton Beach. Those eager to lend a hand can find more details and register at uwf.edu/argosdayofservice. Service activities not only help the community but also foster a spirit of collaboration among participants.
On April 17, the campus will host its seventh Day of Giving. This online event invites supporters to contribute to UWF funds, encouraging a shared commitment to the university’s growth. More information can be found at dayofgiving.uwf.edu.
Here’s a glimpse at more events taking place during the week:
- April 15: UWF Emerald Coast Argo Pantry Food Drive; “True South: A Conversation with John T. Edge” at the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
- April 17: UWF’s Office of Undergraduate Research will feature a Student Scholar Symposium and Faculty Research Showcase, along with an Argo Pantry Food Fight.
Founders Week is not just about fun and festivities; it’s a time for the UWF family to reflect on their shared history while making a positive impact. Engaging in community service and supporting university initiatives fosters pride and strengthens connections within the campus. As social media trends show, more universities are embracing community engagement, inspiring students and alumni to contribute to causes close to their hearts.
