West Fargo is set to host a pop-up food pantry this month for anyone needing food assistance. West Fargo Eats will offer a variety of items, including fruits, vegetables, meat, baked goods, and even diapers.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., or until supplies run out. It will take place in the parking lot of the Lutheran Church of the Cross, located at 1402 16th St. E. Those in need can either drive or walk up to receive the food.

For safety, attendees are asked to enter the parking lot from the north side near Caribou, starting no earlier than 3:50 p.m. Volunteers will load the food directly into vehicles, so it’s important for recipients to remain in their cars during the event.

This will mark the fourth pop-up food pantry hosted by West Fargo Eats this year. So far, they have distributed nearly 22,000 pounds of food to over 2,200 people. The initiative is part of a larger collaboration among West Fargo Eats, the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Gate City Bank, YWCA Cass Clay, and Great Plains Food Bank, collectively known as the Food Share Alliance.

The need for food assistance continues to grow. According to Feeding America, nearly 38 million people in the U.S. were food insecure in 2021, a trend that has been exacerbated by rising costs. Events like these are crucial in supporting those who may be struggling.

In recent months, social media discussions have highlighted local efforts to combat hunger. Many community members express gratitude and share personal stories that showcase the impact of such initiatives. Understanding this need helps foster a spirit of giving and support within the community.

Whether you require assistance or want to lend a helping hand, these food pantry events play an important role in addressing food insecurity in West Fargo. Your participation can make a difference.
