Join the Conversation: Kurukshetra University Hosts Engaging Conference on Environmental Challenges

The Institute of Environmental Studies (IES) at Kurukshetra University hosted the “National Conference on Environment and Sustainability (NACONES-2025)” on Friday.

Chief guest Narsi Ram Bishnoi, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of living in harmony with nature. He pointed out that our relentless pursuit of development has led to significant exploitation of natural resources. Referring to the recent wildfires in the U.S., he illustrated how this reflects the imbalance we have created with the environment.

Bishnoi also noted that the National Education Policy-2020 and the NIRF ranking highlight the importance of sustainable environmental development.

Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva discussed how the conference serves as a platform for meaningful discussions on environmental issues. Dinesh Kumar, Dean of Academic Affairs, shared that the university has set aside 40 acres for environmental protection. He mentioned that environmental conservation is now a required part of the curriculum, promoting active participation from students in planting initiatives.

Keynote speaker Anubha Kaushik from GGS Indraprastha University in Delhi talked about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the UN Agenda-2030. She highlighted that the Indian government is working towards these goals through various initiatives, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, Housing Scheme, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Scheme, Skill Scheme, Mudra Scheme, Digital India, and the Solar Energy Mission.
