Join the Conversation: RSS Chief to Highlight NEP Rollout and Indian Knowledge Systems at Kerala Education Summit

A four-day education summit is set to take place in Kalady, Kerala, from July 25 to 28. This event aims to shape the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and enhance traditional knowledge systems. Organized by Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, a group associated with the RSS, the summit will host around 300 education professionals, including vice-chancellors, directors of central institutions, and government representatives.

Key education ministers from several states, including Rajasthan and Gujarat, will be part of the discussions, but only a select group has been invited to ensure a focused dialogue. Atul Kothari, national secretary of the Nyas, explained that local educators and notable citizens would also benefit from participation, making it an inclusive event aimed at reforming education across India.

RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat is expected to address attendees, sharing insights on “Indianness in Education.” This reflects the organization’s growing involvement in education reform. Previous initiatives by the Nyas have aimed at promoting Indian knowledge traditions and skill development. Kothari emphasized that education is essential for national transformation, highlighting the balance between heritage and modern needs.

However, the summit has sparked debate. Supporters see it as a vital step toward correcting colonial-era education systems, while critics express concern about the possibility of politicizing education. The ongoing discussions about curriculum reforms and the NEP’s implementation across states are likely to intensify around this summit.

In light of the significance of educational reforms, recent studies show a clear shift in attitudes toward the NEP. According to a survey by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), 70% of educators believe the policy could modernize the educational landscape. This data indicates a broader acceptance of changes aimed at integrating traditional and contemporary educational practices.

The summit’s discussions could influence educational policy not just in Kerala but across India, as stakeholders seek to create a unified strategy for reform that resonates with both traditional values and modern educational needs.
