Healthcare experts from various fields recently convened in Doha to discuss the crucial link between climate change and health. This event, called “Exploring the Nexus of Climate, Health, and Environment” (CHE2025), was organized by Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q).
The conference focused on how climate change affects health, especially in the Mena region. Discussions covered sustainable urban planning, the interplay between food, water, and energy, and ways to achieve net-zero emissions in healthcare.
Dr. Javaid Sheikh, the dean of WCM-Q, emphasized the connection between community health and the environment. He noted that the conference brought together global experts to confront urgent health issues rooted in climate change.
One of the notable speakers was Dr. Sanjay Rajagopalan, who pointed out that environmental stress leads to various health challenges, including cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Thurayya Arayssi from WCM-Q highlighted the importance of collaboration in fostering resilient healthcare systems in response to climate challenges. She shared that the positive enthusiasm among participants signaled a strong commitment to tackling these pressing issues.
