Join the Conversation: University Leaders Invite Your Ideas for a ‘Bold Path Forward’

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is rolling out a new initiative called Our Bold Path Forward. This plan aims to guide the university through the next few years, specifically until the 2028-29 academic year. Importantly, students, faculty, and staff will get a chance to contribute their ideas through a series of workshops.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals set by the University of Nebraska system’s Odyssey to Extraordinary vision. The framework is expected to be completed by July 1 and will help different colleges and departments prioritize their goals and actions.

Interim Chancellor Katherine S. Ankerson emphasized that this effort is collaborative. She noted the importance of coming together to create a framework that reflects the input of the entire university community. “We’re not just creating a plan around you; we’re building it with you,” she stated in a March 30 email.

In April, three roundtable workshops are set up to gather input:

  • April 3: 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Willa Cather Dining Complex
  • April 10: 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Nebraska East Union
  • April 20: 1 to 2 p.m. Virtual (link to be determined)

These workshops will go hand-in-hand with discussions happening within each department. Community members are also invited to share their thoughts online.

Recent surveys indicate that community engagement can lead to better decision-making. According to a 2023 report by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, universities that actively seek input from their communities see a 20% increase in overall satisfaction.

Ankerson hopes that everyone will get involved in the coming weeks. “Together, we can define our future and move forward with purpose,” she remarked.
