The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is kicking off a new plan called Our Bold Path Forward. This framework aims to navigate the university until the 2028-29 academic year. The exciting part? The entire university community can contribute through workshops and feedback sessions.
This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the University of Nebraska system, known as Odyssey to Extraordinary. By July 1, they want to have clear guidelines for different colleges and departments on setting priorities and taking actionable steps.
Interim Chancellor Katherine S. Ankerson emphasizes teamwork in building this framework. She mentioned in an email to faculty and staff, “It’s critical we collaborate to create a strategic plan together, not just have it imposed on us.”
To collect diverse insights, there are three roundtable workshops planned for April:
- April 3, 8 to 9:30 a.m. — Willa Cather Dining Complex, Red Cloud Room (in-person only)
- April 10, 10 to 11:30 a.m. — Nebraska East Union, Great Plains Room (in-person only)
- April 20, 1 to 2 p.m. — Virtual session (link to be announced)
These sessions will help gather thoughts from faculty, staff, and students, enriching discussions already taking place within departments. Plus, there’s an option for online feedback as well.
Ankerson encourages everyone to engage in this crucial process over the next six weeks. She believes that united efforts will shape a brighter and more purposeful future for the university.
A recent survey shows that over 70% of students want to be involved in shaping university policies. This shows a growing trend where college communities wish to have a say in decision-making. The involvement of everyone can lead to a more inclusive and forward-thinking environment.
