Join the Custer County Food 4 Youth Challenge: Making a Difference from October 6-22!

Adams Land and Cattle is thrilled to host the seventh annual Food 4 Youth challenge. This year, we’re joining forces with local businesses and schools to support backpack programs. These programs provide essential food for students who may struggle to find their next meal.

Our goal is to not only aid backpack programs but also to stock local food pantries. Hunger shouldn’t be something any student faces, and this challenge aims to change that.

“Last year, thanks to community support and 33 local businesses, we donated over 4,900 snacks and meals to Custer County’s backpack programs and food pantries,” said Liz Babcock, Director of Communications at Adams. “We also raised over $7,500 in gift cards and monetary donations. This year, we hope to exceed those totals to ensure our youth have access to nutritious meals,” she added.

The challenge runs from October 6 to October 22. People can drop off donations at participating businesses. Checks made out to Custer County Foundation for the “Food 4 Youth” fund are also welcome. The schools request items that are easy for kids to prepare, like canned goods (soup, fruits, ravioli), boxed foods (pasta, mac and cheese, cereal), and peanut butter. Gift cards to local grocery stores are especially helpful, as they allow programs to buy specific items year-round.

We’re grateful to the local businesses that have stepped up to support this initiative:

Food insecurity affects many students, a issue that has grown since the pandemic. According to the USDA, around 14 million children in the U.S. face hunger. Community initiatives like the Food 4 Youth challenge are crucial in bridging that gap. Together, we can make a difference for our youth.
