Join the Excitement: 24th Annual African American Cultural Celebration at NC Museum of Natural Sciences!

Black History Month has begun in the Triangle area of North Carolina, and the spirit of celebration is alive and well!

The 24th annual African American Cultural Celebration took place at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. This event allowed people of all ages to learn about the rich history, culture, and contributions of African Americans in the state.

This year’s celebration was special because it was hosted at the Natural Sciences Museum for the first time. Many partners contributed to its success, including students from Elizabeth City State University, who helped capture the day’s events.

Dr. Valerie Ann Johnson, the Chairperson of the NC African American Heritage Commission, shared her thoughts on the new venue. She noted that while the celebration used to be held at the Museum of History, the Natural Sciences Museum brings a fresh perspective and an exciting blend of African American culture and science.

Clarence Goss Jr., an Assistant Professor at Elizabeth City State University, echoed her sentiments. He highlighted the importance of the event for families, especially those from eastern North Carolina, where such opportunities may be limited. He encouraged everyone to mark their calendars for future celebrations and to bring their kids along for a valuable learning experience.
