Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is gearing up for an exciting event—the Australia-India Sports Excellence Forum on March 5 and 6, 2025. This groundbreaking forum, a collaboration between the Australian and Gujarat Governments, aims to enhance sports ties between the two nations.
Key figures from Australia and India will come together to discuss various topics. These include successful bids for the Olympics and Paralympics, developing elite sports talent, advancing Paralympic sports, and leveraging sports science and technology. The forum will also focus on hosting large-scale sporting events. Participants will include leaders from premier sporting institutions, educational organizations, and businesses committed to improving sports in both countries.
With Australia set to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane, and India aiming for the 2036 games, this forum is a prime opportunity to explore areas of collaboration and potential growth in sports.
The Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, highlighted the passion both countries share for sports. He emphasized how this forum will allow Australia and India to exchange experiences and expertise, furthering their cooperation in sports. Leading the Australian delegation will be Kieren Perkins, a former Olympian and the CEO of the Australian Sports Commission.
Gujarat’s Sports Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, expressed pride in the forum, noting that it strengthens the rich history of sporting excellence shared by India and Australia. He sees it as a way to create more opportunities for athletes, coaches, and sports fans.
This forum builds on commitments made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the 2nd India-Australia Annual Summit in 2024. The leaders recognized the potential of sports to enhance bilateral ties and agreed to focus on training, workforce development, sports science, and event management.
The Australia-India Sports Excellence Forum represents a significant step in fostering collaboration and innovation in sports between these two nations.
