BELLEVILLE — A small fundraiser has blossomed into one of Big Valley’s most cherished spring events. This weekend, Belleville Christian School will celebrate its 61st annual auction, welcoming families, alumni, and supporters for two days filled with food, community spirit, and lively bidding.
The auction is vital for the school, funding important resources like classroom materials and technology upgrades. For many, it marks a highlight of spring—a time to reconnect with neighbors and enjoy shared traditions.
Superintendent Nicholas Wilson highlighted the collaborative nature of the event. “This requires a huge team effort. It shows how much the community values supporting our mission,” he said.
On Friday night, the festivities kick off with a turkey dinner from 5 to 7 p.m., along with live music and a preview of auction items. Around 6:30 p.m., the Youth Auction features items exclusively for bidders aged 18 and younger, allowing students to learn about bidding while participating in the excitement. The evening continues with various auctions, including popular agricultural offerings that resonate deeply in this farming community.
Wilson notes, “The auction builds unity and a strong sense of family. Being together with everyone, sharing in the excitement, is truly a blessing.”
Saturday’s agenda starts early, with food stands opening at 8:30 a.m. and the main Merchandise Auction beginning at 9 a.m. Bidders can expect items from household goods to custom furniture and themed baskets. Quilts, a local favorite, are sold hourly, celebrating the area’s rich quilting tradition.
Families can also enjoy the Outdoor Kids’ Carnival, running from 9 a.m. to noon. It provides a space for kids while parents explore auction items. At 11 a.m., unique offerings that captivate bidders’ interest will be highlighted, including trips resembling sought-after getaways. A gun raffle at noon adds to the thrill of the day, with proceeds supporting classroom needs.
As of recent updates, nearly 260 items are up for bid, including box seats for local sports games and fun activities like horseback riding.
The auction’s success hinges on community involvement. Local businesses contribute goods and services, showcasing the strong ties between the school and the surrounding area. “We’re excited as auction weekend approaches, bringing together the spirit of generosity that has sustained this event for decades,” said Wilson.
