Join the Excitement: Bellarmine Men’s Soccer Kicks Off ASUN Play Against Lipscomb!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men’s soccer team is kicking off its Atlantic Sun Conference play this Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET) against Lipscomb at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

A Tough Rivalry

Bellarmine (4-2-2) is aiming to break a five-game losing streak against Lipscomb (1-5-2). While the Knights started strong with wins in their initial meetings, Lipscomb has taken control in recent years, notably meeting Bellarmine in the 2023 ASUN Tournament finals.

Lipscomb’s Record Disguises Challenges

Lipscomb’s record might look poor, but it masks a tough schedule. The Bisons faced ranked teams like Wake Forest, ensuring their team is battle-tested. Coming off a 2-0 loss to Belmont, Lipscomb has seen two players, Levi Jones and Diego Ramirez, each scoring two goals this season, highlighting their offensive potential.

Bellarmine’s Road Ahead

This season, the ASUN has added intra-divisional play, meaning Bellarmine and Lipscomb will meet again later in Nashville on October 25.

Bellarmine boasts an impressive home record, winning all three games played at their stadium this season, including a decisive 7-0 victory against Spalding.

Despite a strong track record in the ASUN, Bellarmine was ranked last in the preseason coaches’ poll, adding extra motivation for the team this season.

Star Players Shining Bright

Johan Nissen-Lie recently made headlines by being named ASUN Player of the Week after scoring three goals against Spalding—the first hat trick in the program’s Division I era. He leads the conference with six goals and twelve points.

Additionally, sophomore defender Martin Cadagan found the net to score the game-winner against Bowling Green State, making his first start in 2025. Despite being on defense, he has three goals in just 15 games.

Nick Harshaw also contributed a goal in the Bowling Green game, adding to his tally for the season. Both he and Cadagan are key players to watch.

Tri-captains Jeffrey Cox and Brendan Schoemehl also assisted in that match, showcasing the team’s depth and leadership.

Historical Perspective

Bellarmine is building on a competitive history in the ASUN, but the pre-season rankings sometimes fail to capture a team’s spirit and growth. In past seasons, underdog teams have risen to the challenge, proving that anything can happen in college sports.

As the Knights prepare to take the field, the combination of motivation, talent, and a solid home advantage may set them up for success against Lipscomb.
