Join the Excitement: Gather COLA Launches This Friday with Delicious Food, Live Music, and Festive Holiday Events!

Columbia’s first open-air food hall, Gather COLA, is set to open its doors in the BullStreet District at 10 a.m. this Friday. The grand opening will be a lively affair, featuring live music, ten restaurants, three retail shops, and two bars. The evening will culminate with a Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m.

Gather COLA is more than just a food hall; it’s part of a broader transformation in the BullStreet District, which recently announced the addition of a Publix grocery store. This shift signifies a vibrant community hub where locals can eat, shop, and enjoy recreational activities.

Among the eateries, Big Easy Seafood stands out. Owner Cedric Cole recounted how he first learned about Gather COLA. “I got an email about the construction. Honestly, I thought it was a scam at first,” he said with a chuckle. After a successful tasting, he decided to take a chance and signed a five-year lease. “We’re expecting more people, and that means more opportunities for everyone to try our food every day,” Cole added.

The vision for BullStreet, as outlined by Hughes Development Corporation, is to create a lively area where people can live, work, and socialize. The company aims to attract new restaurants, retail shops, and businesses that aren’t yet present in the Midlands. This effort reflects a growing trend in urban redevelopment, focusing on mixed-use spaces to enhance community life.

According to recent data, urban open-air spaces are becoming increasingly popular, with a rise in foot traffic and social interactions. A study highlighted by the Urban Land Institute found that projects like Gather COLA can boost local economies by up to 30%. This demonstrates that such developments benefit not only the businesses but also the overall community.

The groundbreaking for Publix is projected for the next summer, paving the way for further growth and buzz in the area. A spokesperson for Hughes Development noted, “The growth here is not linear; each new venture supports the next.”

As Columbia continues to evolve, Gather COLA is a testament to the city’s commitment to community engagement and economic growth. Residents can look forward to a bustling atmosphere at this new hub, where flavors and experiences come together.
