Join the Excitement: Howard University Alumni Host Annual Golf Scholarship Tournament!

ORANGE — The Howard University alumni clubs from Central and North New Jersey and Greater New York City are excited to announce their annual Golf Scholarship Tournament. This year’s event is set for Monday, July 21, at the picturesque Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly.

This popular tournament unites alumni, local business leaders, and community members to raise funds for scholarships aimed at helping students in need. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives.

Starting at noon, participants can look forward to a full day on the green. There will be golf clinics for all skill levels, a cigar lounge, a silent auction with one-of-a-kind items, tastings of top-shelf cognacs, and even on-site massages. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony and a lively cocktail hour. Both golfers and non-golfers can join the fun, with individual and foursome tickets available, along with options to participate in various activities throughout the day.

“We’re thrilled to co-host this event once again with the Greater New York City club,” said Anthony Winston, president of the alumni club for Central and North New Jersey. “Financial challenges often arise for students, and we’re here to ensure those barriers don’t stop them from reaching their goals. Our tournament is a way for alumni and the wider community to support these students.”

This event not only aids students but also connects local partners to a diverse network of HBCU graduates and professionals. Different sponsorship tiers are available for businesses looking to contribute, showing how meaningful community engagement can be.

“Howard University alumni understand the importance of community. We extend that spirit beyond our campus,” remarked Melissa Estrado, chair of the Howard University Alumni Association for Region I. “By collaborating, we enhance our capacity to invest in the next generation of Bison scholars from New Jersey and New York City.”

Last year’s tournament raised an impressive $65,000. The HUAC-CNNJ serves alumni in 11 New Jersey counties, while HUAC-GNYC represents the five boroughs, working together to empower students striving for academic and leadership excellence.

Events like this reflect a growing trend in alumni engagement. According to a recent survey by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), more than 70% of alumni prefer to support their schools through events and fundraisers that also allow them to socialize and network. This tournament clearly taps into that desire, creating a vibrant, supportive community.
