Lubbock Christian University Shines in Homecoming Game
Lubbock Christian University (LCU) delivered a stunning performance at their annual homecoming game on February 14, 2026. They dominated Texas A&M International University, winning 96-57 at the Rip Griffin Center.
The Chaparrals shot an impressive 63.6% from the field. Their dominance in the paint yielded 52 points. Amondo Miller Jr. led the team with an eye-catching 34 points, marking a triumphant return after missing the previous game.
This victory boosts LCU’s record to 22-4 overall and 13-3 in the Lone Star Conference. Meanwhile, Texas A&M International is now 8-16 overall and 5-11 in the conference.
The Dustdevils started strong, staying within reach during the first eight minutes. However, a shift occurred when LCU launched a 9-2 run, helped by a three-pointer from Jett McCasland and some clutch free throws from Lucas Mercandino. Mercandino made an impact throughout the game, hitting nine of ten free throws in the first half alone and finishing with 13 points by halftime.
Despite their efforts, TAMIU couldn’t keep pace. The halftime score left LCU ahead by 13. As the second half began, Miller quickly asserted his presence with a three-point play, contributing 15 points in that half alone.
The turning point came when LCU extended their lead past 20 points. An explosive 11-2 run left TAMIU scoreless for four critical minutes. Leo Norberg’s three-pointer late in the game sparked a lead that grew as large as 38 points before the final buzzer.
Miller’s 34 points not only showcased his skill but also placed him among the top scorers in the Lone Star Conference this season. He previously scored 37 points against Augusta, setting the bar high. Lucas Mercandino complemented Miller’s efforts with seven assists and two steals, while Antonio Pusateri recorded a double-double, securing 19 points and 10 rebounds.
In addition to personal achievements, this game highlighted LCU’s defensive prowess, as they’ve managed to hold five of their last six opponents under 70 points.
What’s next for Lubbock Christian? They’re set to hit the road for two final away games. Their next challenge is against Angelo State University on February 19, where they hope to maintain their winning momentum.
As the season progresses, LCU’s mix of sharp shooting and strong defense may well position them for a deep run in the playoffs. The enthusiasm from home games, combined with this on-court success, shows that LCU is a team to watch.
