Join the Excitement: Over 500 Attendees Experience Our Thriving Health Fair!

Virginia Gay Hospital hosted a fantastic event at Vinton-Shellsburg High School Gym, and this year’s turnout was impressive!

The event showcased vital services that keep our community safe. One highlight was the Vinton Police Department, introducing their new K-9, Edo. He was eager to meet everyone alongside his handler, Sergeant Smothers.

Unity Point Lifeguard Air Ambulance also set up a booth, emphasizing services we hope we never have to use. The Vinton Fire Department provided a fun and educational experience. Attendees could practice using a fire extinguisher through a simulated setup. Fire Chief Chris Staab offered tips on how to effectively handle a real fire.

Virginia Gay Hospital had a strong presence with booths representing various local healthcare services. They covered everything from diabetes care to x-ray services, ensuring that attendees were aware of the resources available to them.

Organizations aimed at enhancing community health, like the Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition, were also present. This group focuses on education and support for families affected by loss, aiming to provide essential resources for prevention.

A big hit among attendees were the goodie bags filled with useful items and pamphlets, perfect for taking home and reviewing later.

The day saw around 60 exhibitors and an even larger number of volunteers, making it a true community effort.

Such events foster a sense of togetherness, as people come together to share knowledge and resources. According to the National Institute of Health, community engagement can significantly improve mental and physical health outcomes.

Overall, it was another successful event, allowing our community to connect and collaborate. A big thank you to all the professionals who came out to share their expertise!
