PERRY, Georgia – If you want to make a difference, check out the 4th Annual Fair Food Drive at the Georgia National Fair. This event is set for Saturday, September 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You can donate non-perishable food items and receive fair food coupons in return.

The Georgia National Fair is teaming up with Kroger and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to help those in need. The first 500 people who bring at least five in-date food items will get $10 in Fair Bucks. These can be spent at participating food vendors during the fair.

Addie Hodges, a Marketing and Communication Specialist, mentions that donations can be dropped off at the Georgia Grown building, with a convenient drive-thru option at the West Gate entrance.

Monetary donations are also welcome through an online campaign, directly benefiting local food banks. This campaign runs until Friday, September 5, at midnight. You can donate at this link.

The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank operates in 24 counties and supports over 190 partner agencies. Their priority items include:

• Canned goods (in-date)
• Healthy snacks
• Kid-friendly snacks (like Pop-Tarts and fruit cups)
• Noodles and rice
• Peanut butter and protein-rich foods
• Canned meats

This year, the event is organized by the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter Youth Livestock Ambassadors. These ten high school students aim to promote agriculture and showcase the livestock industry.

Food insecurity is a growing concern in America. According to the USDA, around 10.5% of U.S. households are food insecure. Events like this are crucial for local communities. They not only provide food to those in need but also raise awareness about the issue.
