TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Salvation Army is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Thanksgiving meal. This event brings neighbors and volunteers together for a warm meal and good company.
For many, like Cassandra Kemp-Olsen, this gathering has become a cherished tradition. “We came here last year, and I thought it was nice to get involved in the community,” she shared. “It’s great to be together and enjoy a meal while connecting with others.”
The Thanksgiving meal relies on volunteers from all walks of life, who come together to cook and serve. “It feels fulfilling to help others and remind myself to be grateful,” said Julia Kunt, a volunteer.
In addition to this meal, The Salvation Army has launched its Angel Tree program, collecting toy donations for families in need. Jeremy Bridges from The Salvation Army highlights the importance of community involvement in their Red Kettle initiative. “It’s not just a fundraiser; it spreads joy to shoppers,” he emphasized.
With the holiday spirit in full swing, many, like Kemp-Olsen, are inspired to give back next year. “I want to help out more rather than just attending,” she said.
