WHITEFISH — The North Valley Food Bank is running its winter food drive, “Feed Love,” until February 16. This annual event aims to gather food donations during a critical time of need.
Sophie Albert, the Executive Director, emphasizes that the winter months often see a drop in donations despite the fact that many families struggle the most during this time. “One in ten Montanans face food insecurity,” she notes, highlighting the ongoing challenge in the community.
This year, North Valley Food Bank is especially in need of breakfast items, ingredients for soups and stews, and pasta. Albert encourages everyone to pick up a few extra items while shopping and donate them at the food bank or in designated bins at local grocery stores.
January has been particularly busy, with over 2,200 visits to the food bank. Families come for help more often due to rising food costs and the challenges of winter. For many, a visit to the food bank can mean the difference between having enough to eat or going without.
The meals provided through the food bank’s ready-to-eat program supply nutritious options for families who may only have a microwave. Last year, this program served over 10,000 meals, showing the impact of community support.
