Join the Fight Against Breast Cancer: Bowl for the Cure Raises Over $17K for Franciscan Health Michigan City Patients!

In February, the Michigan City United States Bowling Congress Bowling Association held its annual Bowl for the Cure fundraiser at Olympia Lanes II. They raised an impressive $17,251 to support local breast cancer patients through the Franciscan Health Foundation’s Michigan City Mammography Department/Breast Cancer Fund. This marks the highest amount ever collected in the event’s history, bringing their total contributions to over $134,500 since 2008.

Nick Loxas, the owner of Olympia Lanes II, generously donated the bowling alley for the event, thanks to a request from employee Cheryl Hale, who chairs the Bowl for the Cure committee. This community spirit is vital in raising funds for those in need.

The donations help provide critical support to breast cancer patients in Michigan City. They assist with educational materials, comfort items, gas cards, grocery cards, and help with utility bills. This support is more than just financial; it offers comfort and practical help during a challenging time.

Debbie Tatum, Director of Development at the Franciscan Health Foundation, emphasizes the tireless efforts of the local community. “Our friends in Michigan City work hard to honor those we’ve lost and support those still fighting breast cancer,” she stated. Breast cancer remains a pressing issue. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime.
