Join the Fight Against Childhood Hunger: Support North Valley Food Bank’s Essential Food Drive!

When summer arrives in Montana, many kids lose access to the meals they would get at school. This puts a strain on families, especially since one in six children in the state struggles with food insecurity.

To tackle this issue, the North Valley Food Bank is launching the FEED KIDS Food Drive from May 17 to June 1. They invite the community to donate healthy, kid-friendly meals and snacks. This ensures that their free grocery store is stocked for families as school breaks begin.

Items needed include applesauce cups, macaroni and cheese, tuna packets, nuts, cereal, oatmeal, crackers, peanut butter and jelly, fruit cups, popcorn, soups, granola bars, and even personal care items such as toothpaste and kids’ vitamins.

At the food bank, all donated items are available for kids and their guardians during grocery store hours. They also have a “kids’ corner” where children can play and choose their own snacks while parents shop. Gracie, a local mom, shares her experience: “The staff and volunteers are so caring. They help me with my kids, and they love picking out snacks in their own space.”

Donations can be dropped off at Whitefish grocery stores, schools, or directly at the North Valley Food Bank, located at 251 Flathead Ave. Cash donations are also welcome and can be made online.

According to a report from Feeding America, food insecurity rates have increased, with children being the most vulnerable. The need for community support in these situations is crucial.
