Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is excited to introduce the Community Climate Champion initiative. Each month, they will honor one resident or community group that is making a positive difference for the environment.

Residents can nominate themselves or others who are actively improving their local area. This could involve creative recycling, reducing waste, promoting biodiversity, saving energy, or encouraging sustainable living. The council will evaluate the actions based on their long-term benefits, creativity, and their ability to inspire others.
Every month, a new Community Climate Champion will be celebrated, with a special awards event held each October to align with Climate Action Day.
Councillor John McClaughry, Chair of the Council, shared his support for this initiative. He emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals and groups who contribute to environmental protection, often on a volunteer basis. He noted that even small actions can significantly impact the fight against climate change and help preserve the area’s beautiful landscapes for future generations.
The Fermanagh and Omagh District is known for its stunning natural scenery, and managing it sustainably is crucial. The Council aims to achieve a Net Zero District by 2042, as outlined in its Climate Change and Sustainable Development Action Plan. The Community Climate Champion initiative reflects this commitment.
You can submit nominations online until the third Sunday of each month.
