MINGORA: In Swat district, a local group called Climate Change Warriors has been actively involved in a tree planting event in Aligrama, Kabal tehsil. This initiative focuses on tackling climate change and reducing the effects of global warming by planting native trees.
During the drive, volunteers planted Chinar and Deodar trees in a local graveyard. The effort highlights the shared responsibility of society in maintaining a sustainable environment and the vital role that trees play for future generations.
Muhammad Hilal, a social worker involved in the project, shared, “Planting trees is crucial for our environment. Every citizen has a role to play.” Environmental activist Azizul Haq Khan stressed the pressing need for climate action. He said, “Climate change is a reality we cannot ignore. As a developing nation, it’s essential for us to value trees and act now to avoid serious repercussions.”
The spiritual aspect was also noted by local cleric Qari Murad, who mentioned, “In Islam, planting trees is considered a noble deed.”
This tree planting initiative aligns with recent statistics emphasizing the importance of trees. According to the United Nations, forests cover about 31% of Earth’s land area and are vital in reducing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
