Join the Fight Against Food Waste and Hunger: Don’t Miss the Hilarious Comedy Show at the DC Festival Center!

Big laughs can make a difference, especially when it comes to food waste and hunger. In the U.S., about 35.2 million people struggle to get enough food. This includes 10.7 million kids. At the same time, we waste a staggering 133 billion pounds of food each year—roughly 40% of our entire food supply. It seems we’re great at tossing out meals while debating what’s for dinner.

Grassroots Comedy has decided to take action. They’re gathering some of the best comedians from the Mid-Atlantic for a night of humor focused on food waste and the odd systems that contribute to it. This isn’t just any comedy show. It’s comedy with a cause, guaranteed to make you think as you laugh.

Proceeds from the show will support Northern Virginia Food Rescue (NOVA-FR). This organization is focused on solving these issues directly. They rescue surplus food from grocery stores, restaurants, and farms, redirecting it to food banks and shelters that serve low-income communities. Since starting, NOVA-FR has saved over 36 million pounds of food from going to waste. They’ve also helped reduce more than 58 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions and partnered with over 1,700 nonprofits to reach many people in need.

In addition, recent statistics highlight that food waste not only affects those who are hungry but also has significant environmental impacts. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), if food waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases after the U.S. and China.

So, as you enjoy a night of laughter, remember you’re also part of a larger solution. Your support helps create a future where everyone has enough to eat and no food goes to waste.
