One organization at the heart of this effort is the Community Food Bank of New Jersey (CFBNJ). They work tirelessly to fight hunger across the Garden State. Last year, volunteers contributed over 90,000 hours—equivalent to the work of 43 full-time employees—by sorting food, preparing meals, and packing boxes for seniors.

This year, CBS News New York is teaming up with CFBNJ for their annual pack-a-thon event in Hillside, where volunteers will be packing meals and fundraising for their critical mission. Later in the year, we’ll also join them for their Thanksgiving turkey drive, showcasing the continuous need for community engagement.

If you’re looking for ways to help, CFBNJ has various volunteer opportunities throughout the year at their warehouses and locations like the new Garfield Unity Pantry. Right now, they especially need hands on deck to stock shelves, organize items, and assist neighbors with their shopping. Most volunteer shifts are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Did you know? According to a recent survey by the Corporation for National and Community Service, volunteering not only helps the community but also brings benefits to volunteers such as improved mental health and greater life satisfaction. This insight emphasizes the win-win nature of volunteering.

For those interested in contributing, you can find all the information you need, including a calendar of events for specific opportunities, on the CFBNJ website.

Join the movement of giving back this National Volunteer Month. Your time can make a world of difference.
