If you’ve been wanting to help families in need, there’s an easy way to do it on Saturday, May 9. Just grab some non-perishable food, place it in a plastic bag, and leave it by your mailbox. Local postal carriers from the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will take care of the rest. This is part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the largest one-day food drive in the U.S. Best of all, all food collected stays within your community.
Andy Brunsman, the executive director of Be Concerned: The People’s Pantry, emphasized how simple it is to contribute. “Everyone is busy, but this is an easy way to give back,” he said.
Be Concerned is one of seven organizations in Northern Kentucky that will benefit from this drive. Each month, they provide food and services to over 2,500 families. Other local groups participating include:
- St. Vincent de Paul of Northern Kentucky
- Brighton Center
- Pantry of Hope (Alexandria)
- Action Ministries (Latonia)
- CARE Mission (Alexandria)
- St. Paul Episcopal Church Pantry (Newport)
Brunsman noted that the food drive helps meet rising demands. “We’ve seen a significant increase in families asking for help,” he shared. This surge is echoed by a recent report showing a 20% rise in food pantry usage across the state compared to last year.
What’s heartening is that Northern Kentucky has a history of generosity. “Neighbors truly support each other here,” Brunsman added. The spirit of community shines through, making it a special place during tough times.
