The State Fair of Texas opens on Friday, September 26, and it’s the perfect time to get involved in a great cause. The fair has teamed up again with the North Texas Food Bank for their annual “Feed the Need” food drive. They encourage fairgoers to bring nonperishable items to help families struggling with hunger.
Since 1995, this partnership has provided over 4.8 million pounds of food to the community. Last year alone, donations helped serve around 165,000 meals. Jennifer Schuder, a senior vice president at the fair, emphasizes the importance of giving back during this event. She says, “Giving back has been part of the State Fair tradition for decades. Fairgoers love knowing their visit helps their neighbors.”
To make it easy for everyone to pitch in, the fair is offering some exciting deals. On opening day, if you bring two jars of peanut butter, you get a $10 admission voucher. Peanut butter is one of the most requested items for the food bank. Each Wednesday at the fair, donating five canned items earns you a $7 voucher.
If you’re looking to do more, consider volunteering at the food bank during the fair. Volunteers will assist with donations and spread awareness about hunger relief. You’ll get a special “Feed the Need” T-shirt and a return voucher for the fair. Sign-up is available on the NTFB website.
Trisha Cunningham, president and CEO of NTFB, highlights the urgency of this initiative: “This is our largest canned food drive of the year, and it comes at a critical time for families across North Texas. One in five children in our community risk hunger. The support we receive through the State Fair helps us put nutritious food on the table for thousands.”
