Clarksville, TN – The 1st Annual BBQ Fest Across the River kicked off on Friday night, October 11th. Clear skies and a cool autumn breeze welcomed countless locals to RichEllen Park for an evening filled with delicious food, great music, and family fun. Mayor Wes Golden expressed excitement about hosting this inaugural event, hoping it becomes a cherished community tradition.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people here,” he remarked. “Usually, this park is known mainly for baseball, but we aim to host more events like this that everyone can enjoy.” Cody Jackson from Hilltop Supermarket emphasized the teamwork with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, which made the festival possible, even bringing in the famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Live music from The Back Lot Pickers kept spirits high, while kids had a blast in the Family Zone, enjoying inflatables and face painting. Parks and Recreation Director Sally Reed highlighted the importance of making RichEllen Park a place for community gatherings beyond sports.
The food lineup delighted barbecue lovers with a variety of flavors. Attendees savored BBQ sandwiches, tacos from Kadi’s Tacos & More, and creamy ice cream from Merry Oak Manor Dairy. Joyful Squeeze Co., a kid-owned business, proudly sold fresh lemonade and gourmet sodas.
“It’s been incredible watching my small business grow,” shared Blayne, the owner of Joyful Squeeze Co. “I started just a few months ago, and the community has really embraced us.”
One of the big attractions of the night was, of course, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Guests eagerly lined up for photos and free whistles, creating a fun atmosphere for adults and kids alike. Strawberry Alley Ale Works offered a range of craft beverages, adding to the festive vibe.
According to surveys about local festivals, events like these strengthen community ties. A recent study found that 72% of attendees at similar events feel a stronger sense of belonging. Jackson expressed gratitude for the 20 BBQ teams participating, reflecting on how many have come to love this event over the years.
The fun isn’t over yet. Saturday’s festivities continued with live performances from The 1980, more food trucks, and exciting competitions like the People’s Choice Tasting for BBQ lovers.
