LAFAYETTE, La. — A local slider showdown recently attracted attention, showcasing the spirit of food, faith, and fun in Lafayette. The aroma of sizzling sliders filled the air as community members gathered for the event, aimed at supporting a mission called Keep Pointing Up (KPU) at Shane’s Famous Quesadilla Burger.
Kerry Seymour, the founder of KPU, praised the event and its impact. “Shane’s a wonderful person. It’s all about blessings and coming together as a community,” he said.
The competition featured local personalities, including former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and NFL players, who were on hand to judge the sliders. UL football head coach Michael Desormeaux expressed the importance of community involvement. “It’s great to be part of something that matters,” he noted.
Competitor Colby Patout from Door and Windows Pros highlighted the deeper connection that events like this create. “It feels good to support our community and share our faith,” Patout said.
His slider recipe included ground meat stuffed with bacon, topped with pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions, and jalapeño ranch. “A lot of love went into these burgers,” he explained. Winning the competition was exciting, but for Patout, the true reward was the connections he made.
“When you open up, you realize others are going through similar challenges,” he shared. This sentiment is becoming more relevant in our society, where community ties can foster growth and understanding.
