CHOMP! is back! This vibrant celebration of local food and community takes place in Marymoor Park, Redmond, on Saturday, August 16. It’s a free, all-ages event packed with live music, delicious food, hands-on activities, and insights into sustainable food practices.

This year’s star is Kim Deal, known as the bassist and co-vocalist of the Pixies and the frontwoman of The Breeders. For families, Bug Friend will entertain with joyful, literacy-themed music suitable for all ages.

Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including:

  • Fun games and crafts
  • A garden focaccia bake-off for kids
  • Local food vendors and farm stands
  • A petting zoo
  • A lively horn parade by HONK! Fest West
  • Sustainability demonstrations and booths from local organizations

Now in its ninth year, CHOMP! plays a key role in King County’s Local Food Initiative. It highlights the importance of supporting farmers, chefs, and artists while fostering a sense of community around environmental care and local food systems.

Warren Jimenez, King County Parks Director, emphasizes, “CHOMP! brings people together to celebrate what’s fresh, local, and rooted in community.” This event aims to create a more sustainable and equitable food system across the region.

In recent years, events like CHOMP! have gained popularity, reflecting a growing awareness of food sustainability. According to a 2022 survey by the Food and Wine magazine, 70% of consumers now prefer local ingredients. This trend showcases a collective shift towards valuing local produce and supporting community efforts.

CHOMP! is not just about food; it’s about building connections and learning together. Join in on the fun and discover the beauty of local food culture!
