The Townsend Military Band is hosting a special lawn party concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at the common. This event aims to raise funds to renovate Kids Kountry Playground, located behind Spaulding Memorial School.
Betty Mae Tenney, the Band Concert Coordinator, hopes the community will come out to support this initiative. “Attendance is key to improving the playground,” she said.
There will be plenty of food for concertgoers. The Townsend Cemetery and Parks Department will grill hamburgers and hot dogs, and you’ll also find cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, fried dough, popcorn, snacks, and refreshing beverages. Plus, you can enjoy various homemade baked goods for a small donation.
Kids will have a chance to enjoy a game area set up just for them during the concert.
The evening’s entertainment kicks off with lively tunes like Paul Lavender’s arrangement of the “Raiders March” and the “Beer Barrel Polka” by Donald Broeniman. The concert will wrap up with the “Star Spangled Banner” at 9:30 p.m.
Local events like this aren’t just fun; they help strengthen community bonds. According to a report from the National Recreation and Park Association, active community spaces, like playgrounds, lead to happier neighborhoods. People who participate in local events are more likely to be engaged in their community, leading to a shared sense of purpose and support.
So, if you’re in the area, come join the fun, support a good cause, and enjoy some live music!
