Join the Fun: McLean Day Festival Returns with Patriotic Celebrations, Delicious Food Trucks, and Exciting Activities!

McLean Day is a vibrant celebration that locals eagerly look forward to each year. This time, the festival will celebrate a special milestone—the 250th birthday of the United States. The event is scheduled for May 16 at Lewinsville Park, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It promises a day filled with fun for the whole family.

This year marks the 111th annual McLean Day, set to kick off with a performance by the McLean Community Players. They will give attendees a sneak peek of their upcoming musical, “1776,” which recounts the founding moments of the nation. Willie Montgomery, the Special Events Coordinator, describes it as a fantastic way to start the event.

The festival will also highlight local talent, with winners from a recent art and writing competition for high school students showcasing their work. The theme was “Freedom Through My Eyes.” This initiative, part of the Youth Ambassador Program, encourages creative expression among local youth.

A unique twist this year is a patriotic theme, with decorative touches throughout the park. Visitors can also participate in special surveys to provide feedback while receiving a commemorative T-shirt. And for those who love taking selfies, there will be a giant “250” photo booth—perfect for capturing memories.

Entertainment will be plentiful, featuring local performers and a variety of food trucks. Of note is the return of the Motown tribute band, The Sound of Soul, alongside dance showcases from the Art in Motion program. Montgomery also shared that more entertainment options are spread out across the park this year, creating a lively atmosphere.

With around 45 vendors expected, attendees can browse crafts, artisan goods, and delicious food from popular local eateries like DC Slices and Mo’s Chicken & Smashburger. In addition, a new vendor, Jarabe Gourmet Pops, will add to the mix.

This year’s event is not just about fun; it’s also a chance for community engagement. Residents can meet candidates for the MCC governing board elections, which will conclude on May 8. Also, free shuttle services will be available, as parking at the park will be limited.

Interestingly, McLean Day has a rich history that dates back over a century. Initially, it emerged as a simple community gathering, but it has evolved into a major festival, now drawing more than 10,000 visitors annually. According to Montgomery, “It’s a celebration of community spirit, and this year’s enhancements will only make it better.”

Overall, McLean Day is set to be a delightful event that combines entertainment, community pride, and an opportunity to reflect on American history. As excited locals prepare for the day, many are already sharing their enthusiasm on social media, showcasing what they’re looking forward to at this year’s festival. With the rich lineup of activities, McLean Day promises a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
