Join the Fun: Pints and Professors Kicks Off Nov. 11 at Arkansas Tech University’s Point Remove!

The Arkansas Tech University College of Research and Graduate Studies is launching a unique community learning series called Pints and Professors.

This series is all about blending education with casual conversations over a drink. Each session will feature a 30-minute talk followed by open discussions. The aim is to make ATU’s research and innovations more approachable and relevant to the community.

The first event takes place on November 11 at Point Remove Brewing in downtown Russellville at 6 p.m. Dr. Julie Mikles-Schluterman, the director of ATU’s new Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach, will kick things off by discussing how the center fosters connections between the university and the local community through services and innovative engagement opportunities.

“Our center aims to connect the talent from the university with real community needs,” said Mikles-Schluterman. “Programs like AR-NETWORK are helping us build these connections across the state.”

The Dean of the ATU College of Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Michael Bradley, shared that Pints and Professors is a perfect fit for Arkansas Tech’s mission to support lifelong learning. He emphasized, “Education knows no borders. We’re dedicated to expanding opportunities and fostering hope through learning, whether that’s in Russellville, Dardanelle, or around the globe.”

According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, 70% of adults believe community engagement enhances educational outcomes, underlining the importance of programs like Pints and Professors. By breaking down the barriers between academic settings and everyday life, initiatives like these can significantly enrich the learning experience.

The series also taps into a growing trend on social media where users share local educational events. Many people are expressing their excitement for interactive learning opportunities in their communities, making platforms like Facebook and Instagram popular spaces for discussions around these events.
