Wiltshire Council is excited about a growing initiative focused on reusing items, and the results are already impressive.
In February 2025, Kennet Furniture Refurbiz (KFR), teamed up with Wiltshire Council and FCC Environment to open a Reuse Shop at Hopton Industrial Estate in Devizes. This shop takes donations from local recycling centers, welcoming everything from small household items to unique decorations.
KFR gives these donations a new life by refurbishing and reselling them. The shop offers a variety of affordable items, from furniture to everyday essentials, making it easy for shoppers to find quality products at budget-friendly prices.
Since the shop opened, it has successfully diverted over 21 tonnes of material from landfill, saving around 1,850 items from waste. This not only reduces clutter but also supports local employment and promotes a greener Wiltshire.
Residents are encouraged to donate reusable items and to explore the Reuse Shop for unique finds. Look for the orange bicycles at donation points, and staff members are always ready to assist with questions.
Daniel Thompson, Operations Manager at KFR, expressed pride in this project. “Each donation helps reduce waste and provides affordable goods to those in need. Whether it’s a big piece of furniture or small decorative items, every contribution counts.”
Toby Goodwin from FCC Environment highlighted the importance of community involvement. “By focusing on quality donations, we can help prioritize reuse. This reduces disposal rates while benefiting local charities.”
Councilor Paul Sample emphasized the broader impact of the initiative. “By keeping useful items in circulation, we reduce emissions and lower costs for residents. Every donation makes a difference.”
According to recent studies, the reuse market is growing rapidly. In the UK alone, it is projected to reach £1 billion by 2025, reflecting a significant shift towards sustainable consumer habits. Social media trends are echoing this change, with hashtags like #WasteNotWantNot gaining popularity among users promoting minimalism and eco-friendly practices.
The Reuse Shop is not just about selling items; it’s a community effort to make Wiltshire more sustainable. Next time you’re looking for home essentials, consider visiting the shop in Devizes. You might find something special while supporting a great cause.
