The Hawai‘i Lions are excited to kick off their 17th annual “Lions in Sight” Campaign. This month, they’re not only collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids but also hosting a food drive to support local and global communities in need.
On January 24, from 8 a.m. to noon, volunteers from multiple Lions clubs across Hawaii, including Kaua‘i and youth LEO clubs, will be at various locations collecting donations of eyeglasses and sunglasses.
This year, the Kaua’i Food Bank and the Kaua’i Independent Foodbank will join the effort, gathering non-perishable items like canned goods, pasta, rice, and juice.
You can drop off your donations at Long’s Drugs CVS in Kapa’a, Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihue, or Big Save at the ʻEleʻele Shopping Center.
The campaign encourages everyone to do some spring cleaning. Look through your drawers and closets for unused eyewear. Your old glasses can make a big difference through the Lions Recycle For Sight program. Once collected, they are cleaned, sorted by prescription, and sent to places like Afghanistan, Samoa, and the Philippines where access to eye care is limited.
Hearing aids are also accepted. These will be cleaned and tested before being distributed locally.
Did you know that the World Health Organization estimates that about one-fourth of the global population could benefit from corrective lenses? That’s why this initiative matters. It’s about more than just eyeglasses; it’s about improving lives.
Looking ahead, 2026 will mark a significant milestone for the Lions Clubs of District 50, celebrating 100 years of service in Hawaii. That’s a century of helping those in need!
