Join the K-P Afforestation Drive: Unite for Climate Action and a Greener Future!

PESHAWAR:

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a major urban afforestation initiative this spring. The goal is to enhance greenery in cities and tackle environmental issues.

This campaign will improve the beauty, environment, and economy of urban and suburban spaces throughout the province.

The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has provided detailed instructions to the Forest and Environment Department and local municipalities. The focus is on choosing plants that thrive in the local climate and need little care.

Officials will prioritize trees that support biodiversity, strengthen ecosystems, and help conserve energy.

To combat water scarcity and pollution in cities, the campaign will plant larger trees instead of smaller shrubs. It will also include fruit-bearing trees to provide both ecological and economic gains.

Target areas for planting include roadsides, canals, public parks, and gardens. In highly populated zones, unique approaches like Miyawaki plantations and vertical forests will be used to increase green spaces.

The Forest Department and local municipalities are expected to collaborate closely with other relevant agencies to ensure the campaign’s effectiveness and long-term success.
