FORT WAYNE, Ind. – February 2 is World Wetlands Day, and the Little River Wetlands Project has some exciting activities planned for the week.

The celebration kicked off with a ‘World Wetlands Day Hike’ at the Lloyd W. Bender Memorial Forest. This event, held in partnership with ACRES Land Trust, ran from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Later that day, community members gathered for an educational session called ‘Wetlands in Winter’ at Purdue Fort Wayne’s Environmental Resources Center. This event highlighted the important role wetlands play for wildlife during the colder months.
Several more events are lined up for the week, including:
- A ‘Wetlands at Work’ session at Camp Scott Wetlands Nature Preserve from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday.
- A ‘Wetlands Drum Circle’ at Fox Island County Park’s Wildlife Observation Building from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
- A ‘Walking the League’ tour organized by the Huntington Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The week will wrap up with a fun ‘World Wetlands Day Trivia Night’ on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hop River Brewing Company.
