Join the Love: Elon University Black Student Union’s Inspiring ‘Spread the Love’ Event!

Elon’s Black Student Union recently held its “Spread the Love” event on February 13. Students came together to make and decorate chocolate-covered strawberries, as well as create cards and bracelets for teddy bears. This gathering partnered with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.

Maleah Proctor, the BSU President and a senior at Elon, shared her hopes for the event: “We want everyone to have fun while learning how to connect with others in different ways, especially around Valentine’s Day.”

The community aspect was key. “We wanted to create a space for people to come together,” she explained. “Valentine’s Day is approaching; it’s perfect for celebrating love and friendship.”

Murphy Davis, a junior and Delta Sigma Theta member, added that she hoped the event encouraged students to meet new friends. “I want everyone to make something special for someone they care about,” she said. “It’s all about bonding and sharing joy this season.”

Beyond the festive atmosphere, such events reflect a growing focus on community. A recent study by the Pew Research Center showed that nearly 70% of young adults value social gatherings and connections. This trend highlights the importance of events that bring people together, especially in a multicultural setting.

In a world increasingly driven by technology, the desire for personal connections remains strong. Events like “Spread the Love” serve as a reminder that creativity, love, and community engagement can thrive amidst the digital age.
