Join the Mercer County Food Bank Bingo Night and Help Feed Our Community!

On a recent Friday night, the community gathered at St. Bartholomew Church in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, for a fun-filled event called Bingo Lingo. This wasn’t your standard bingo game. Participants not only played but also sang some of their favorite songs during the game, adding an energetic twist to the evening.

Tickets were priced at $30 each, a small fee that would go towards providing meals for those in need. Impressively, each ticket purchased meant 60 meals could be distributed by the Mercer County Food Bank. Given the current economic downturn, events like this are crucial for local families facing food insecurity.

Becky Page, the Executive Director of the Mercer County Food Bank, highlighted that demand for assistance has surged. In November alone, over 10,000 new individuals sought help from the food bank. “The community really showed up to support our mission,” she noted, emphasizing the increased need as winter and the holiday season approach—traditionally a busy time for food banks.

Interestingly, Page revealed that their goal for the event was to provide 20,000 meals, but they exceeded that target before the night ended. This shows the strong commitment and generosity of the community. Social media buzz around the event reflected a sense of pride and unity, with attendees sharing their experiences online, showcasing the event as a heartwarming gathering for a noble cause.

In a time when many face hardships, initiatives like Bingo Lingo remind us of the power of community. Events like this not only provide immediate assistance but also foster connections among neighbors. For more details on the Mercer County Food Bank, visit their website here.
