IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan State Police are gearing up for their annual Stuff a Blue Goose campaign. This event clears out patrol cars to make room for new toys and food donations.
On Thursday, from 2 to 5 p.m., the Iron Mountain Post will be at Walmart, collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Troopers will be there, ready to receive your donations.
Col. James F. Grady II, the director of MSP, shared the importance of this tradition. “With tremendous community support, we can make a difference. We hope to brighten the holiday season for many families,” he said.
The Stuff a Blue Goose drive started in 2009 after a trooper noticed a growing need in his community. Initially aimed at a few families, the effort expanded quickly. That first year saw enough donations to fill 10 patrol cars. Fast forward to today, and there are over 30 events planned statewide for its 16th year.
Everything collected stays local. Charities distribute the items to families who need them most. Last year, the generosity of Michigan residents led to over 12,000 toys and 4,000 pounds of non-perishable food collected, along with $50,000 in donations to help families.
This campaign illustrates the power of community support, showing how a simple idea can grow and impact many lives. As this year’s event approaches, the hope is that Michiganders will continue to step up and give.
