ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The 10th Annual Food Truck Drive on Saturday attracted a big crowd. Community members gathered to donate food and enjoy meals from local food trucks, all to support Second Harvest Food Bank.
Every dollar spent at the food trucks helps fight food insecurity in our area. Nicole Folino, Community Services Manager at Second Harvest, felt the community’s support was incredible. “It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together at a time when it’s most needed,” she shared.
All food donations collected will go to families in need. For the past decade, WFMZ has sponsored this event, with support from Giant and Dorney Park.
Ryan Eldredge, Public Relations Manager at Dorney Park, mentioned that organizing the drive takes months of preparation, but the turnout always surprises him. “It’s exciting to see how the community shows up for their neighbors,” he said.
Jen Dilliard, Community Care Crew Coordinator, noted how familiar the event feels after seeing many of the same people return each year. “It’s a fun afternoon watching everyone enjoy their meals,” she remarked.
This year, the food and funds collected surpassed expectations. Folino announced that they gathered 12,368 pounds of food, exceeding their goal of 10,000 pounds. This amount will provide around 10,307 meals.
In a world where food insecurity is a growing concern—affecting about 10% of households in America today—events like this play a crucial role. A recent study by the USDA shows that food insecurity rates have risen by 2% since last year, highlighting the importance of community support.
As final figures from the food truck sales come in, it’s clear that this yearly drive not only fills bellies but also fosters a spirit of unity and compassion among community members.
