The Missoula Food Bank and Community Center is on a mission to raise $325,000 for its annual holiday drive. As of now, they are $50,000 short of their goal, and every little bit helps.

Amy Allison, the executive director, says the community has shown incredible generosity, especially in light of recent challenges like delays with SNAP benefits and the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Families are feeling the pinch, particularly with rising winter expenses such as heating and medical costs.

“In winter, more families struggle,” Allison explains. “Budgets can be tight due to added costs for heating and holidays. It’s a busy time for us.”

Last year, the food bank served 24,400 people. That’s one in five residents relying on food assistance. This highlights a growing need in the community, especially during challenging times.

You can help by dropping off food at the food bank or at any First Security Bank location. There’s also an option for online donations.

For those interested in volunteering, there are opportunities available to make a positive impact.

The current situation mirrors historical trends during economic downturns when food banks often see an increase in demand. According to the Feeding America Network, food insecurity rates have risen significantly over the past few years, highlighting the ongoing struggles many face.

By supporting local initiatives like the Missoula Food Bank, you’re directly aiding your community during these tough times.
