Join the Movement: Gyeonggi Province Unveils Second Term of Citizen Carbon Neutrality Promotion Group to Tackle Climate Crisis

Gyeonggi Province is taking significant steps to promote carbon neutrality through its new initiative, the Carbon Neutrality Citizen Promotion Group. This group recently kicked off its second term with specialized training aimed at equipping citizens to tackle climate issues effectively.

The training sessions took place at Shinhan University and the Gyeonggi Provincial Library, involving 330 members from across the province. The focus was on practical strategies rather than theoretical discussions. Local experts like Kwangseok Choi and Eunha Kang led sessions on essential policies and encouraged citizens to play a crucial role in local climate action.

Participants learned about the province’s ‘Climate Action Opportunity Income App’ and the new ‘Gyeonggi Climate Insurance’ system. This hands-on approach empowers members to give concrete assistance to their communities, helping them navigate these initiatives effectively.

Furthermore, the training emphasized the group’s role as a key player in climate governance, focusing on practical contributions to the Gyeonggi Province Climate Crisis Adaptation Measures. This new direction recognizes them as partners rather than just educators.

The group plans to start field activities in April, directly engaging with vulnerable populations like those in health centers and senior facilities. Their goal is to provide education on carbon neutrality and support applications for climate insurance. This outreach connects environmental efforts to health and welfare, creating a holistic approach to community engagement.

Jaesung Shim, the director of the Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Promotion Agency, emphasized that effective action begins with small lifestyle changes. By empowering citizens, the province aims to foster a culture of climate consciousness and active participation.

Statistics indicate that community involvement is crucial in climate action. A recent survey found that over 70% of respondents believe local initiatives can significantly impact environmental change. This sentiment aligns with the provincial goal to build awareness and collaboration at the community level.

Overall, Gyeonggi’s strategy positions citizen engagement as vital in addressing the climate crisis. As participants complete their training, they will receive certificates and continued support from the government to ensure their efforts yield positive results.
