India Climate Week 2026 (ICW 2026) recently wrapped up at Bharat Mandapam, highlighting India’s growing role in carbon markets and green technology. From March 12 to 17, the event gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and financial experts under one roof to push for a sustainable future.
The theme of ICW 2026, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was ‘प्रकृतिरेव शरणम्’ (Nature is our only refuge). This initiative aims to position India as a leader in climate action. With the support of various government ministries, the week served as a vital platform for discussions and collaborations centered on reducing carbon emissions.
During the opening session, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa emphasized the importance of integrating urban sustainability with national climate goals. He announced Delhi’s commitment to a green budget this year, focusing on eco-friendly infrastructure.
Rohit Kumar, Secretary General of CMAI, spoke about the event’s significance, noting how it has united policy, industry, and market efforts to convert climate ambition into real-world business strategies.
In similar sentiment, Manish Dabkara, CMAI President, stated that ICW 2026 marks a shift from merely discussing climate goals to taking actionable steps. This event catalyzed investments and partnerships crucial for India’s transition to net-zero emissions.
At ICW 2026, discussions also revolved around next-generation solutions like AI in monitoring, sustainable aviation fuel, and green hydrogen—innovative pathways for decarbonizing heavy industries. The event included industry site visits, workshops, and high-level dialogues to engage participants practically.
A significant moment was the India Climate Samman 2026, which honored individuals and organizations excelling in sustainability. This recognition underscores the vital role of grassroots efforts in combating climate change.
International voices were also present. Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega, Brazil’s Ambassador to India, remarked on the event’s role in fostering global cooperation. Similarly, Iceland’s Ambassador stressed the importance of partnerships in reaching global climate objectives.
Looking at recent statistics, a survey indicates that 72% of Indian businesses are prioritizing sustainability over the next five years, reflecting a cultural shift towards green initiatives.
As global climate discussions increasingly focus on implementation, ICW 2026 lays a foundation for scalable, market-driven solutions that confirm India’s commitment to a low-carbon future. The Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) continues to lead in this crucial journey, working to establish a strong carbon credit market and further India’s climate goals.
