Catholic Charities Emergency Food Shelf is all set for its exciting annual event, "Pack the Porches." This initiative comes at a crucial time when many families are struggling to put food on the table.

Diana Arthur, a Senior Development Officer, shared some eye-opening statistics with KNSI Radio. Last year, Catholic Charities helped over 17,000 individuals across more than 6,000 households by providing more than 2.4 million pounds of food. This rising need mirrors trends across the state, where food insecurity is becoming a significant issue.
The "Pack the Porches" event will happen on Friday, March 28, at three convenient locations in the St. Cloud area: Pioneer Place on Fifth, St. Cloud Financial Credit Union in Sartell, and St. Cloud Hyundai in Waite Park.
While you can donate nonperishable food items, monetary donations are incredibly impactful. According to Arthur, every dollar donated can translate into three dollars’ worth of food due to their partnership with Second Harvest Heartland. This relationship enables Catholic Charities to stretch each donation further, making your contributions go a long way in supporting those in need.
This year’s event emphasizes collective efforts against food scarcity, and community participation is key. Insights from experts highlight that food insecurity is not just a local issue. A recent survey found that 1 in 10 Americans faces hunger, a stark reminder of the ongoing challenge many households are grappling with daily.
