Join the Movement: Support Green Policies in the 2025 Elections for a Sustainable Future!

MANILA, Philippines — With the May 2025 midterm elections on the horizon, the Philippine Business for Environmental Stewardship (PBEST) is urging Filipinos to consider environmental issues when casting their votes.

This call was made during a recent roundtable discussion with the Climate Reality Project (CRP) Philippines. The focus was on the need for accountability in environmental governance in the nation’s climate strategy.

Dindo Manhit, the president of Stratbase and PBEST’s lead convenor, emphasized that these elections are a chance for voters to influence critical environmental matters. He encouraged people to support leaders who prioritize green policies, which can help create a sustainable and climate-resilient Philippines.

A recent survey from Stratbase revealed that 87 percent of respondents back candidates who advocate for climate change policies and disaster resilience. Manhit believes this strong public mandate can push forward initiatives like decarbonization and a circular economy, which are vital for long-term sustainability.

He also highlighted that successful climate action depends on collaboration among all sectors, supported by transparent and accountable governance.

During the discussion, Environment Undersecretary Jonas Leones underscored the significance of green initiatives, including the Extended Producer Responsibility Act. He pointed out that partnerships between public and private sectors are crucial for effective waste management and resource recovery. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is working with various agencies to offer incentives to businesses that adopt circular economy practices.

Leones noted, “Investing in infrastructure, enhancing enforcement, and streamlining processes are vital for fostering a supportive environment for the circular economy.”

In addition, CRP branch manager Nazrin Castro stressed the need for ongoing communication and teamwork across all sectors to effectively tackle climate challenges.
