Join the Njago Campaign: Elevating Awareness on Climate Change and Coastal Conservation

Climate Change Awareness Caravan Launched in Kermessen

On December 25, 2025, a climate change awareness campaign kicked off in Kermessen, Trarza region. Mr. Yaqub Ould Salem Val, the Minister Delegate for Interior and Local Development, and Governor Ahmed Ould Sid ‘Ab led the event, focusing on the impact of climate change in coastal areas.

This year’s caravan, organized by the Association of Mayors of Coastal Municipalities, aims to educate local populations about environmental preservation. It will reach communities across Trarza, Nouakchott, and parts of Nouadhibou.

The minister expressed gratitude to President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani for his support and highlighted the progress coastal municipalities have made in recent years. He encouraged continued efforts to protect the environment, emphasizing its importance for local development.

Recent studies underscore the urgency of addressing climate change. According to the World Meteorological Organization, coastal regions are particularly vulnerable, experiencing rising sea levels and increased flooding. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of these challenges.

Social media reactions have shown strong community support for environmental efforts. Many residents shared personal stories about local changes they’ve witnessed, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.

As the caravan unfolds, it serves not only as an educational effort but also as a call to action, reminding us all that safeguarding our planet is a collective responsibility.
