PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany Environmental Advisory Committee (PEAC) has been working hard since 1995 to support our community’s environment. This volunteer group advises local leaders on important environmental issues and aims to protect our natural resources. They are actively involved in projects that enhance open spaces, improve recycling, reduce litter, and help manage flooding.
PEAC consists of nine passionate volunteers who have positively impacted life in Parsippany. One key achievement was helping to launch the first plastic bag ban in Morris County, paving the way for New Jersey’s statewide ban. They have also hosted popular green fairs, where residents can learn about sustainability and local environmental projects.
Recently, PEAC co-hosted a screening of the documentary “American River,” which explores the Passaic River. This waterway is crucial for our community, and the documentary helps raise awareness about its importance. Additionally, PEAC has drafted a new tree ordinance aimed at preserving trees in our area, recognizing their vital role in keeping our air clean and our ecosystem balanced.
One of their proudest projects is Parsippany’s first native plant pollinator garden, located at the main library. This garden is a welcoming space for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. We can all look forward to seeing it bloom again in the spring!
Looking ahead, PEAC has exciting events planned, including educational programs and sustainability projects. Community involvement is crucial for fostering a healthier environment. Residents can stay updated by following PEAC through their online channels and social media.
As climate change continues to affect us, it’s vital that we all engage in local environmental efforts. Every small action counts toward building a sustainable future. PEAC meets every second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Library on Halsey Street, and everyone is welcome to join and learn more.
